I’d be lying if I said my heart didn’t ache for every street dog we came across but some definitely pulled at your heartstrings more than others.
We came upon this little one at the Paso de Jama border crossing between Chile & Argentina and we were instantly taken by him. Not the most welcoming at first and then always wary, he barked and then came closer, barked and a little closer. Eventually he retreated to his tower to watch over his patch.

Anyone who has travelled in Latin America will know that street dogs are a part of the cultural fabric. If it weren’t for the fact that we were travelling by motorcycle i think we may have adopted (or tried to) at least a dozen.
Some gave just a fleeting bark. Some a little more animated, but others showed such character, i couldn’t help but stop and take a shot or two.
This guy was hanging around on the streets of Caldera, Chile. He appeared from around the back of the car half asleep but clearly willing to defend his patch. He’d clearly led a tough life and i wanted nothing more than to show him love and give him a home where he didn’t need to have his guard up.
