TURN BACK - A Limited Edition Print
“TURN BACK” is a limited edition print of a photograph taken at the point in which Lucy and I decided that to continue on this hike would be a case of ambition ruling sense.
We had set out to reach a local glacier called Supphellebreen so with a packed lunch well… packed. We set off up the trail. It didn’t take long to realise this was an intermediate++ route. It was overgrown with spring foliage, steep, and the weather was inclement to be mild about it.
We came to our first river crossing but knew it would be fools errand to cross on the conveniently placed ice bridge. We didn’t know the thickness of it and to fall into the fast flowing water below could derail the whole trip.
We detoured up river to find a place to cross using the boulders that had been ushered down the mountainside by previous errosion and ice melt.
When we came to this second river crossing and were met with similar challenges, all the while thr roar of the river intensifying the situation, we were long enough in the tooth to know when to push on and when to turn back. This picture will always remind me of taking a moment to exercise reason and not act in haste.
