Gauchos are synonymous with rural Patagonia but we hadn’t until this point seen one.
We’d been on a long hike to the Mirador Las Torres and had just made it back to level ground when we heard this thunder rumbling in the distance. It was odd because there wasn’t a cloud in the sky.
As we’re looking at each other, slightly confused, dozens and dozens of horses roared out from behind a wooden structure. Leading them is a young gaucho, then horse after horse stride past.
We watched on as more and more appear and I fumble for my camera.
Finally, the last of the horses round the corner and last of all, this guy. Completely in control and moving with his steed as though they were one.
He glanced back just as i managed to snap a shot and then within a second, they’d all disappeared in a cloud of dust. Such a surreal yet magical moment.
