You might not believe it, but it wasn’t until we drove by this dam that I clocked it from the GoldenEye film.
We had to turn around and backtrack, as it holds such significance for me, as I’m sure it does for many people of that era. Almost as iconic as the film, though, was the computer game released on the N64.
The nostalgia is wonderful, but I daren’t go back and play it, as I’m sure it’s preserved in far better condition in my mind. I can still remember, more vividly than things I perhaps ought to, walking into my room to find my stepbrother playing on his new game.
I couldn’t believe how real the characters looked! It was as though we were walking through each doorway as the computer James Bond. We played that game for hours.
Hours became days, and days became weeks.
It’s a testament to the console that our appetite finally gave up before it did. All of these wonderful memories came flooding back as we stood gazing at this iconic dam from the opening scene of the film.
If you haven’t seen the film, it’s one of the best — personal opinion.
